2024 Constitutional Change
The following verbiage (in red) has been proposed by the Board of Trustees to be added to the current Temple Emanu-El Constitution
ARTICLE II - MEMBERSHIP
Section 3. Any person who is a member in good standing of another congregation and who has paid (or is paying) dues to said congregation shall be eligible for an "Associate Membership" in Temple Emanu-El and shall pay such dues and other fees as may be determined by the Board of Trustees for an Associate Membership. Any holder of an Associate Membership shall have full access and use of all facilities and programs of Temple Emanu-El except that any Associate Member shall not be entitled by virtue of their membership to (i) utilize Temple Emanu-El facilities or have clergy officiate at life cycle events (including weddings, funerals, unveilings, b’nai mitzvah, confirmations, baby-namings); (ii) have children attend the religious school, (iii) vote, or (iv) hold elective or appointed office or serve as a Trustee. Any Associate Member must remain in good standing with his/her other congregation as a condition of maintaining Associate Membership at Temple Emanu-El. In the event that an Associate Member wishes to obtain life cycle services, such services may be provided by Temple Emanu-El on such terms and conditions as deemed appropriate by the Senior Rabbi. The Board of Trustees is also authorized to establish such other non-traditional membership categories, and dues requirements for such categories subject to approval by the Financial Council, as it determines to be reasonable and appropriate.
