The World's Oldest Hatred: Understanding Antisemitism
If you have experienced Brendan Murphy’s program on Why the Jews?, you know the history of antisemitism in the Catholic Church. Now learn the many ways in which anti-Jewish ideas manifest today.
We explore antisemitism through our unique historical and progressive lens, which explores the idea that most people don’t know what it means to be a Jew, what antisemitism is, or how it works. Fixing these misunderstandings is necessary for our community to help others recognize and combat anti-Jewish ideas, as well as understand why pushing back on antisemitism is so necessary. The focus is on "contemporary antisemitism" and the kinds of systemic anti-Jewish ideas that are ingrained in society and can create biases among even well-meaning folks. Our curriculum helps attendees better understand the lived realities, history, and challenges facing the Jewish people.
What is Project Shema?
Project Shema is a training and support organization built by progressives to help our Jewish community and allies understand and address contemporary antisemitism, with an emphasis on how anti-Jewish ideas can emerge in progressive spaces and in discourse around Israel and Palestine. We work to deepen understanding and build compassion and empathy for the history, trauma & lived experiences of the Jewish people.
