There's something about the red hair.

Rabbi Rachael Miller

There’s something about the red hair.

Their age and the red hair.

I remember the name of every kid I grew up with who had the same red hair.

I can tell you the names of all the kids in the synagogue who have that red hair.

They say King David had red hair. They say the messiah, who will be a descendent of the line of David, will have red hair. I have no idea if that’s part of why we focus on the red hair. But I do know that a messianic age feels very far away from the weight of today.

Deep down we all knew. Yet deep down we all held on to hope. I had nightmares about their deaths. I had dreams about their return.

The messiah didn’t come today. And so we grieve. We weep. And then, with time, we continue the holy work.

Ani ma'amin, b'e munah sh'leimah

I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, and, though he tarry, I will wait daily for his coming.
