When I was a student at the University of Maryland (’11), I distinctly remember feeling safe being a Jew on campus. My AEPi house and the Hillel never faced antisemitic graffiti, I never had an issue getting an excused absence for Jewish holidays, and our annual Israel festival was proudly celebrated on the largest campus quad in the country, McKeldin Mall. Being outwardly Jewish at the University of Maryland was an easy, positive, and even unremarkable experience...
We need to keep the pressure on Congress and continue to thank them for their support as the war continues. They will be facing enormous pressure from all sides. Temple members can text to subscribe to receive the AIPAC daily calls to action (usually sending an email to Congress or to the White House). Also, this link will contact your members of Congress and urge them to keep pressure on Hamas to bring the hostages home: Click here .

Are you a new, new-ish or even a "seasoned" member of TE, and not already a member of a Chavurah? If so, this is a fantastic time to be a part of our revitalized Chavurah program! A Chavurah is a group of around 6-12 individuals, couples, and/or families who have some common interests. It is a great opportunity to develop closer friendships with a smaller group of TE members.
Click here for more information and fill out a short questionnaire to help the Chavurah Committee place you with a group. The committee will help get you started and will provide any assistance that you need to make your Chavurah successful!

A Security Message from Our Co-Presidents
We write because of the continuing tragic and horrific situation in Israel, antisemitism, and our concern for security in our community and at Temple Emanu-El. We want to underscore and reassure you that Temple Emanuel-El has taken and maintains a range of significant security measures, seen and unseen, designed to guard and protect our congregants, their families, and guests while at our synagogue.

Welcoming a new addition to your family is a joyous occasion, and finding a supportive community to share the journey makes it even more special. Introducing Mazal Tots, a unique gathering designed to foster connections, provide resources, and celebrate the beautiful journey of parenthood. With dedicated age-specific sections, we cater to the needs of families with infants (0-5 months), movers and groovers (6-17 months), and toddlers (18 months-3 yrs), creating an inclusive space for all. All classes are offered on Sundays with sessions at different times for each age group.
There are two mitzvot pertaining to the Shabbat meal. One is oneg, the mitzvah to delight in Shabbat, as it is written: “Call Shabbat ‘delight’ (oneg)” (Isaiah 58:13). Oneg is fulfilled primarily through the meals, but snacks and a Shabbat nap are parts of it as well." (Peninei Halakhah, Shabbat 7:2:2) Providing the Oneg is performing a Mitzvah for our community.
Hosting an Oneg is not only a Mitzvah, but it can also be a way to celebrate a family event and share the good news with the congregation.
Commemorate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, awards, graduations, B’nai Mitzvah and other happy occasions. Sponsor an Oneg today!

Remember A Loved One
I will give them, in My House And within My walls, A monument and a name Better than sons or daughters. I will give them an everlasting name That shall not perish. (Isaiah 56:5)
We are commanded not merely to grieve but also to remember and to observe.
Temple Emanu-El’s Yahrzeit plaques both perpetuate the cherished memory of the loved ones we have lost and create a permanent family legacy.
Memorializing our loved ones in this way fulfills the commandment to give tzedakah in their honor.
