A Shabbat Message from Rabbi Max Miller
There’s a Jewish holiday coming up?
Yes! The middle child of Jewish holidays, Shavuot, is this Wednesday. Packed between Pesach and the High Holy Days, it is easy to forget about this major Jewish celebration. Over our history, Shavuot has been a holiday to mark the fruit harvest, the wheat harvest, and the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai. In the last 500 years, most communities that celebrate Shavuot hold all-night study-a-thons and feast on dairy treats.
Joseph’s Inkwell is a writing contest for Jewish teens (created by Jewish teens) with a $500 prize. It's always been a struggle for young people to get published and for young Jews right now it's more difficult than ever. Joseph’s Inkwell creates a space for our voices to be heard. Jewish students can send in submissions to one of two categories (either fiction or nonfiction) by August 1st, 2024.
This contest is not limited to Temple Emanu-El kids, so if you want to let others know about this amazing opportunity, that would be appreciated.
